2009’s DEBUT movies: Bedtime Stories & 大搜查之女
The first movie I watched in cinema this year was Bedtime Stories. Erm, I actually preferred Sammi Cheng’s new movie, 大搜查之女, but then no more seats are available. (Well, it was weekend after all.)
First of all, I dunno anything bout the movie because I never watched any trailer or read any news regarding the movie. All I know is that it stars Adam Sandler, and honestly I am not a fan of him. I was thinking that it has some adventure stuff because of its poster. Well, I am wrong, lol.
The movie’s plot is all too familiar. You roughly know wat will happen every scene. Official plot synopsis is this:
A family comedy about a hotel handyman whose life changes when the lavish bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to magically come true.
I think you get what I mean by “familiar plot” from this line. There is another issue that I dislike. When do Skeeter and Jill develop feelings for each other? It was like they just BANG. No explaination is needed. Every guy and girl in a movie must be a couple. LAME!! =.= I like 1 thing bout the movie though. Russell Brand, the person who got my attention in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, is stealing the show here again. It was like he has magic in comedies. And I was surprised that the main actor in Memento, Guy Pearce, has just a minor villain role here. Conclusion, this type of movie is definitely not for me.
Next up, the 2nd movie I watched this year would be 大搜查之女, a HK film starring Sammi Cheng and Eason Chan. As always, I don’t expect much from HK movies as to minimize my disappointment. The last good HK movie for me would be 投名狀. (I admit I didn’t watch many HK movies.) After 投名狀, every HK movie I watched is crap. An exception would be 葉問, which has some crazy cool action by Donnie Yen, even though the plot is kinda fake.
Alright, back to 大搜查之女. The story revolves around Eason’s son getting kidnapped and Sammi investigates the case as a police. So, the focus of the movie would be the kidnapping, and the climax would definitely be the reveal of the kidnapper. When the son is kidnapped, the movie kinda throw too many unrelated subplots to it. Remember the scene of 譚耀文? Why is this scene needed? And the part about Sammi’s relationship. That’s just a waste of time. They can just throw it away and use those screen time for the kidnapping instead!! When it has too many unrelated subplots, the movie has a hard time to end all of em. The climax is a failure. All you will feel at the end would be “huh huh huh wtf?” I hate movies which end like crap.
Another issue is Sammi’s acting. She doesn’t portray her character well. She is like a crazy bull storming around and kicks everyone away. Although dis film marks her return to acting since 2005, I saw no improvement and hopefully she can show me a really good performance in the future.
It’s not like this movie is crap, just that I really can’t accept a movie which ends like shit. Sigh…. When can I get to watch another 投名狀 again?
